Not getting enough sleep only worsens your depression symptoms. Lack of sleep makes you irritable and sad. It also triggers fatigue and moodiness. Aim for a total of 8 – 9 hours of sleep. Strong social connections could help reduce isolation and keep you busy with other happy thoughts. Finally, analyze your daily routine and remove all the stressful routines, or find alternatives to reduce the impact of these stressful things. Some examples are – work overload, stressful relationships and unsupportive people – try to work around all of them to reduce their impact on your life.

Medical causes of depression

If there are no known causes for your depression, make an appointment with a doctor to check whether that is an underlying medical condition that is triggering depression. The health problem needs to be identified and treated before you take any anti depressants. One of the medical conditions that can cause depression is hypothyroidism. Sometimes, if a person is taking medications for a number of different ailments, the drug interactions can trigger depression.

On a closing note, find a mix and match of treatments including psychotherapy, medication and permanent lifestyle changes. It will greatly help you combat depression.
